Vornyn returns with firewood to find his companions badly injured from the skeleton fight. He makes quick work of their wounds with his healing spells. The group moves on deeper into the forest. They come upon a Dwarven soldier "Dunk" who is looking for a new war to fight. The army he previously served with in Gardon had been decimated, leaving him the lone survivor. He said he decided to travel far away from his grief and search out a new battle/ adventure to get his mind off things. He happily joins the group and they head out back on the trail after a nice lunch of dry rations. A few hours into their journey that day, they faintly hear an old woman crying in agony.
When the group approaches they find an old woman tied up to a tree with ten young human lads throwing stones at her while one prepares the grounds for a good old fashioned witch burning. As he lights the torch and is about to set the witch ablaze, Vornyn fires a single shot at the mans hand hitting perfectly, which forces him to drop the torch. Quickly the band of young misfits throw their remaining rocks and the battle is on! An entangle spell stops the misfits in their tracks. Then the new dwarven soldier "Dunk" casts a flame spell at one of the entangled men. The fire is intensified by all of the new bramble produced by the entangle spell. At this point Murphy casts an additional entangle spell which basically engulfs the men beyond retreat. The fire intensifies. Delvin, feeling that this is wrong, uses a jar containing a mud elemental in hopes to squash the flames. It works and stops the fire, covering everyone and everything in a grey mud. Gary unties the witch and moves her to safety. She explains that the local villagers would not accept her money to buy food for her sick daughter, so she stole some chickens. That forced the young misfits of the village into a rage and they came here to "Burn the Witch"!
The companions get her away from the entangled men and escort her back to her home. There they find a sickly teenage girl. It appears she is suffering from some type of poison. The Amonzoniean "Sura" uses her innate ability to neutralize poison with her own blood, saving the young girl. The witch is extremely grateful and offers up a gift to Delvin for his eye injury. It is a jet black glass eye. He puts it into his empty eye socket and immediately both of his eyes become the same pure black. It gives him the ability to see normally in both the day and night but it comes with a cost of looking quite sinister. The witch explains that he now can "steal" the pupils of others which will provide him with added powers if he sees fit to use it.
The companions invite the witch "Elga" and her daughter "Estia" to join them on their journey to Diamond bed city, stating that is no longer safe for them here. The angry mob of villagers will surely be back along with reinforcements anytime now. They agree and the entire group hits the road again as quickly as the horses can take them.
